In a recent conversation, Chris from Elevation Worship shared his personal experience about battling negative thoughts and the inspiration behind the song “God Is Not Against Me.” Here’s a summary of what he shared:
Have you ever noticed how fast negative thoughts can creep into your mind? They’re sneaky, right? One minute, everything is fine, and the next, you’re caught up in anxious thoughts, feeling inadequate in every area of life.
I’ve had days like that—days where I’m doing just fine, and suddenly, my mind is spiraling into worst-case scenarios. I start worrying about my wife, my kids, the world falling apart, and feeling like I don’t have the strength to keep going. It feels overwhelming, and sometimes, I just want to give up and sit in that negativity. Can you relate?
But then it hit me—if I can go from peace to anxiety so quickly with just a few thoughts, isn’t the opposite also true? What if I’m only one thought away from joy, one thought away from experiencing true peace, and one thought away from fully trusting that God is with me? That He’s for me and wants the best for my life?
That’s the heart behind our song “God Is Not Against Me.” It’s a truth I need to keep on repeat, to remind myself daily of the Father’s love and affirmation. To remind my soul that He’s in the battle with me, working through me, fighting for me. No matter what, God is not against me.
