Why This Matters
Radio has traditionally only ever had three rotational places to put music…Current (Light, Medium and Heavy), Recurrent (for the songs that were recently hits in current) and Gold (for the songs that old but were hits on the radio station). That mindset makes a ton of sense if the only place people can hear music is radio. But what do you do with songs in 2025 that have 160M+ streams, are in the Top 25 within the church (according to Planning Center) and are testing HUGE across the country (#7 on Troy Research last week) but have never worked their way through current on your radio station? What if you simply put that type of a song in recurrent because it’s a hit everywhere else but your specific radio station? This is the situation with this collaboration from Housefires + Bethel Music on the song “Rest On Us”. If you’ve not put it into current by now, maybe you think it’s too late? It’s been a HUGE hit for 4 years ever since Maverick City Music/Brandon Lake/Upperroom released it. And it’s still a hit. We don’t need you to give a current rotation spot to “Rest On Us”. Look at the data and throw this one straight to recurrent. That way, it gives the song exposure on the radio thus growing it’s impact while also bring immense value to your audience…you’ll give them a song they’re listening to everywhere else!
