Call Your Name

When I was 24, I lost my mom in a car accident. When I was 37, I lost my faith. This is complicated because I’m a Christian recording artist. I was in a writing room with two other guys, and I was honest with them. I didn’t know what to write about. And I immediately remembered an experience I had a few months before. I think it was the middle of the night. I felt very trapped, and it was a scary moment. And I remember trying everything I could and nothing working, and the only thing I had left was the name of Jesus.

And I called it. The darkness lifted, and it’s like, wow. I started to realize how this this string of faith had been weaved throughout my life. And looking at it and realizing, this isn’t something I wanna lose. And that became the foundation that I rebuilt my faith off of.

Today it feels different but stronger than it ever has. I think a lot of people are wrestling with their faith, and I think they don’t know what to do about that, or they feel ashamed of that, or they feel like it disqualifies them, but I actually think it’s the opposite. I think we’re here to wrestle with our faith, and I think that is going to be our story and it’s definitely mine.
